Summary: Originally a newspaper column, this San Franciso-based set of short stories spawned five sequels, a TV mini series and a huge cult following. Despite a 'bah humbug' or two, we mostly enjoyed Maupin's book in the
same way that we would enjoy a daft American soap opera. We also found that 30 years on, the book still retains shock value -- especially in a post-AIDS world.
